Ten Things to know about newly appointed Federal University Dutse VC
Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar has formally assumed office as the new Vice Chancellor, Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State after the expiration of the tenure of the pioneer VC, Prof. Jibrilla Dahiru Amin, Daily Trust Newspaper reports.
Here are the ten things to know about the newly appointed Hijab-wearing Federal University Dutse VC
1. Fatima, is a Professor of Botany with plant physiology as her area of specialisation.
2. She was born in Kano in 1963 and started her education at Shahuchi Primary School and later, Shekara Girls Boarding Primary School.
3. She went to Government Girls College, Dala, Kano, where she obtained her West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1980.
4. She proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where she graduated with a degree in Botany in 1984.
5. She undertook her National Youth Service at the Forestry Division, Ministry of Agriculture, Kano State.
6. Fatima did her Masters Degree at Bayero University, Kano in 1994.
7. She enrolled for a Ph.D programme in Botany (plant physiology) which she completed in 2005.
8. She has a certificate in agricultural biotechnology from Michigan State University, USA, 2012.
9. Professor Fatima started work with BUK in 1994 as assistant lecturer and rose through the ranks to become a senior lecturer in 2003, associate professor in 2007 and professor in 2010. In 2013, she was released on leave of absence to a newly established university, Northwest University Kano, to establish the Faculty of Science as the pioneer dean.
10. In 2015, Professor Fatima was appointed the pioneer Deputy Vice Chancellor, Northwest University, Kano.
