At COHIMSU, Northern Muslim students seek lasting solution to Shi’ism, insecurity

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, A-Zone (comprising of All Northern States and The FCT) has called for a better Nigerian society.

The call was contained in a communique, signed by the A-Zone Chairman and His Zonal Secretary, Dr. Dalhatu Abdullah and Muhammad Issa.

The communiqué was reached at the end of the society’s 2016 ‘Conference of Higher Institutions Muslim Students’ Ummarah’ (COHIMSU), which held at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Wammako, Sokoto State.

The event themed, ‘MSSN Evolution and Her Struggle Towards Making a Balanced Society’, was attended by dignitaries within and outside the state, including over 160 participants from Higher Institutions spread across the 19 Northern States and the FCT.

The 3-Day Conference which held between the 4th and 6th of March, was conveyed to address the societal , economic and the lingering misgivings plaguing our country, Nigeria.

Among the Resolutions reached at the Conference were:

“1.MSSN does not support any sect conflicting with the government and security outfits. Hence, the Society supports the government on the Judicial Panel of Inquiry been set up by the Kaduna State Government with the view of getting a lasting solution to Shi’ism and National Security.

“2. The Society appreciates and supports the on-going fight against terrorist groups (like Boko Haram) which is prioritised by the present administration. However, the Society calls on the government to hasten the resettlement of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).

“3. Government should device means of bringing succour to suffering of the masses over the sky-rocketing of prices of foods and commodities which are presently unprecedented.

“4. Government should not relent on its effort on the enforcement of price control of the petroleum products as monitored by the Petroleum Pipeline and Product Marketing Company (PPMC).

“5. The Society also appreciates the foresight of President Mohammadu Buhari in the appointment of 13 new Vice-Chancellors for the new Federal Universities in Nigeria.

“6. The Society calls the attention of Tertiary Institutions’ administration in the country to rise towards the full implementation of dress-code because no culture or religion encourages indecent dressing among its community/followers.

“7. Islam is not a terrorist religion and it has no element of terrorism; MSSN therefore wishes to announce strongly to all and sundry that the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and Boko Haram (BK) are not in anyway advocates of Islam. Their actions and activities are in total contradiction to Islam.

“8. The Society is hereby calling the attention of the Judiciary arm of government handling cases of corruption and financial crimes to be just and fair in recovering all the illicit wealth acquired by the corrupt people.”

The Society also expressed her appreciation to everyone who contributed to this year’s Conference.
