One-Day Governor: MSSN Lagos hosts winners, hails LASG
The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit (LSAU) hosted the One-Day Governor and his cabinet on Saturday, July 23.
Giving the welcome address, the Amir, Mallam Saheed Ashafa, urged them to always remember that they are ambassadors of Islam and to always portray Islam in a good light.
He also commended the ruling granting female Muslim students the right to use the Hijab in schools.
Ashafa said: “Know that you are a symbol and an ambassador of Islam. Your actions are now considered heavy and have serious implications on the generality of Muslims. Also know that the seed to your personal growth, germinates better with right friendship.
” Move with those that will remind you of your creator and guide against misdeeds.”
Addressing the students, the lecturer, Dr Mutiu Qasim, urged them to always be ready to excel in all they do and to aspire to be at the top in all their endeavours.
He also urged them discover themselves by recognising their strengths and weaknesses, consolidating their strengths and turning their strengths to weaknesses, adding that:
“Be what you are. It is the first step to discovering yourself. Set achievable goals for yourself; celebrate what you have accomplished but raise the bar a little higher every time you accomplish a goal; develop the attitude of the excellent ones; continuously desire to win, succeed and reach the peak; be pious and rely on Allah. The reformation of this world lies in the hands of the Muslims. The world is waiting for us.”
The Amir presented the Distinguished Muslims Personality Award (DIMPA) to the winner of the state Spelling Bee who was made the One-Day Governor, Master Olasehinde Olufemi Joshua; the first runner-up who was the One-Day Deputy Governor, Master Abdulrauf Kehinde Komolafe; the second runner-up who was the One-Day Speaker, Miss Okinbaloye Rashidat and Miss Abdulkareem Asiyat who won the Governor’s Quiz Competition and was the One-Day Commissioner for Education.
Receiving his award, the One-Day Governor, Olufemi urged other students to always make the best use of their time saying: “You can be better than I am. Create time for things that are meaningful.”
Rashidat Okinbaloye urged them to never relent in their quest for success. She said: “Success is not meant for a person, it is meant to be shared, so, let us try to succeed.”
Asiyat Abdulkarim urged them to endeavour to always represent the Hijab in the best way and not to commit vices as their actions reflect those of other Muslims.
