The National President of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Muhammad Jameel Muhammad made the call at the formal opening ceremony of the 100th edition of the annual Islamic Vacation Course of the organisation in Lagos, South West Nigeria.
He said that the government needed the support and prayers to be able to face the numerous challenges facing the country, especially the challenge of corruption.
Jameel-Muhammad also advised the government to make the war on corruption an all-inclusive one, saying there should be no sacred cow.
Speaking earlier on the theme of the vacation course, ‘The Basis’, the president of the Lagos State Chapter of the society, Mr Saheed Ashafa emphasized the need for all to return to God in all their dealings.
He expressed regret that moral values have declined in the society, thereby leading to corruption and destruction of societal fabrics.
“Indeed we need to return to the basis in all our dealings and this is evident in the imperfections witnessed in all facets of our lives. Though unfortunate, our situation as Muslims and Nigerians has proved that our moral values have declined as faithful and this needs to be corrected through placing of prominence on the basis,” Ashafa said.
