Intensify peaceful co-existence in S’West, MSSN urges new NSCIA deputy president‎

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria has congratulated the newly elected Deputy President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sakariyau Babalola, for his emergence.‎

The MSSN Lagos State Area Unit in a press statement by its president, Saheed Ashafa, charged the new deputy president to use his position to unite Muslims in South West.

Ashafa also urged the new NSCIA executive to intensify the peaceful co-existence and tolerance among Muslims and faithful of other religions in South-West.‎

The leader of MSSN in Lagos, who described Babalola as a philanthropist per excellence, appealed to him to be a voice against oppression of Muslims in his region and Nigeria at large.

He said, “We congratulate and rejoice with Alhaji Sakariyau Babalola‎ and wish him a successful tenure. Given his long term and wide service to Islam, we have no doubt that he would bring positive changes to the apex Islamic body in Nigeria.

“It is our expectation that he would complement the efforts of his predecessor and that of the NSCIA Secretary-General, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede in ensuring the rights of Muslims are guaranteed and not trampled upon in South West.

“We make bold to say that Muslims in South-West are persecuted, stigmatised and deprived of certain rights. Up till now, many of our adults are still disturbed from performing their civic responsibilities and enjoying social services and amenities provided for all citizens by the government which is not supposed to be.

“We urge him to serve as a uniting force for all Muslims and contribute his quota to the development of Islam in this region and Nigeria as a whole. Apart from uniting Muslims further, the newly elected Deputy President should within all his capacity ensure that the peaceful co-existence enjoyed among Muslims and people of other faiths is strengthened.

“We pray that Allah guides his actions and utterances in his capacity as he is to partner Shehu of Bornu, who is also the Deputy President-General of the Muslim apex body for the North.”

Ashafa also rejoiced with the NSCIA for a successful congress, saying the conduct of the congress was worthy of emulation.

It will be recalled that the NSCIA, has elected Alhaji Sakariyau Babalola as its Deputy President-General, to replace the late Aare Musulumi of Yoruba Land, Abdul-Azeez Arisekola Alao.

Mr. Babalola’s election was announced at the General Assembly/National Executive Council (NEC) of the NSCIA meeting held on Saturday at Imaguero College, Benin, Edo State.
